The conference program committee encourages all potential presenters, including but not limited to researchers, practitioners, policy makers from a range of sectors to submit abstracts for papers or presentations that reflect current understanding and advances in any of the thematic areas.

This abstract guide has been prepared to assist authors in preparing abstracts for submission to the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2023.

We recommend that you use the following section headings to help present the information clearly. It is not required that you follow this exact framework – you may delete headings, or add in other sections, at your discretion.

The conference program committee encourages abstracts spanning research, policy, programs and projects across a range of sectors.

APPROACH 1 – RESEARCH BASED ABSTRACT

This approach could be selected for research in all disciplines. Abstracts can be organised in the following way: a maximum of 350 words for the body of the abstract.

• Title: should be clear, succinct, and accurately describe the work to be presented. There is a 50-word limit on the title during abstract submission. Please no CAPS.
• Background: briefly state the aim or objective, or describe the problem being addressed.
• Methods: describe how the study addressed the objective or problem, and might include study design, study period, methods of data collection or analysis.
• Results: present the findings and summarize any specific results.
• Conclusions: explain the significance of your findings for drowning prevention and outline future implications of the results.

APPROACH 2 – POLICY, ROGRAM OR PROJECT BASED ABSTRACT

Suited for lessons learned through policy, programme or project implementation. Abstracts can be organised in the following way: a maximum of 350 words for the body of the abstract.

• Title: should be clear, succinct and accurately describe the work to be presented. There is a 50-word limit on the title during abstract submission. Please no CAPS.
• Background: briefly state the purpose or objectives of the policy, program or project
• Description: describe key features of the policy, program, project including setting, key interventions, activities, population and/or participants.
• Lessons learned: present the findings, including any evaluation of lessons learned.
• Conclusions: explain the significance of your findings for drowning prevention and outline future implications of the results.

Please use a numerical referencing system to cite key sources at end of relevant sentence. For example, (1). Write references in a list below the abstract. (1) Authors surname, First name, Year, Title, Publication
