The WCDP 2023 Local Organising Committee (LOC) is identifying a number of organisations/institutions that may be willing to support delegates from Developing Nations to attend the Conference. A Crowdfunding opportunity is also available for all delegates when registering to commit to assist their peers from Developing Nations to attend.
In order for delegates from those countries (see the list of eligible countries below) to access this funding, a Scholarship Funding Application process has been set up. All delegates from Developing Nations who wish to apply for such funding are now invited to submit an application by e-mail to wcdp2023@ilsf.org to be received no later than Saturday 22 April 2023. Late applications will not be considered. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SCHEME IS NOW CLOSED FOR NEW APPLICATIONS.
Those who apply must understand that the funding sources are limited and it may not be possible to meet all of the funds requested by applicants. During the last WCDP event held in 2019 in Durban, South Africa, only 25% of those who applied could be provided any funding to assist in their attendance. Applicants should be aware therefore that applying for funding does not guarantee that any funds will be made available to them.
The WCDP 2023 Scholarships Committee will carefully consider all applications and will give priority to:
-
- Applicants who have been selected to present their paper as an Oral or Poster Presentation
-
- Applicants who can demonstrate the potential impact of their attendance at WCDP 2023
-
- Those with a demonstrated track record of policy, programmatic and/or academic contribution to drowning prevention
Note: The Scholarships Committee will consider factors such as applicants who have never previously attended an ILS World Conference on Drowning Prevention, or who have not previously received scholarship funding previously, but this will not automatically exclude a person from consideration.
As part of the application process, delegates need to describe their involvement in Drowning Prevention Work in their nation, region and/or community, and give examples of their achievements in the past 5 years.
All questions on the form must be answered within the word limits shown in the document. Applicants can apply for:
-
- Full scholarship support, including air travel, visa, accommodation and registration costs
-
- Partial scholarship support covering accommodation and registration costs
-
- An amount of money to assist in funding their attendance
Applicants will be informed as soon as a decision is made with the following outcomes:
-
- Successful with funding in place and whether partial or full funding has been given
-
- Successful pending additional funding sources becoming available
-
- Unsuccessful
